About the Album

Process > Product

As a music lover and creator based in Northern California, Hannah has found her current place of making music for mental health to be her main focus and one worthy of sharing. The creative process is one that is vulnerable and at times an enormous task to complete individually. However, Hannah decided to challenge herself to reach new heights in her musicianship with the use of only her voice, a microphone, laptop, Digital Audio Workspace (DAW), and her knowledge/experiences with mental health - more specifically coping with anxiety, insecurities, and well-being. Through this process, she has found that there is beauty in imperfection while discovering perfectionism, comparison, and self-doubt are very prevalent obstacles but are worth working through. "I had to be reminded that the lessons that emerge from the process are far more important than the final product and what people may think of it" Hannah says.

Theory of Change

Releasing expectations and internalizing positive change

Throughout the creation of this album, The Art of Letting Go, Hannah has been working towards aligning the music and its meaning to her proposed theory of change.

"My proposed theory of change is that by connecting to individuals who struggle with their mental health and well-being, I intend to instill personal and social outcomes through the medium of music that will change the way people think and act upon mental health, as well as provide a sense of self and belonging, comfort, and healing into the lives of the suffering, and those longing for peace" says Hannah in her project proposal.

It has been outlined in the Community Music Capstone course that some of the most powerful art is through personal experience and that a personal story with the right kind of attempt can have a large impact musically, socially, and/or personally. This is because personal experiences can help us to better understand social phenomenon and provide individuals with a new framework to live by. The Art of Letting Go is largely based on personal experiences and through these experiences, Hannah aims to reach an audience through the medium of music in order to instill personal outcomes such as healing, comfort, self-awareness, creativity, agency, communication, and the ability to better manage one’s feelings.
